 What began in 1988 as a small New Year's Eve celebration on Zurich's Gemüsebrücke is now an integral part of Zurich's event calendar and is known far beyond the country's borders. On New Year's Eve, a spectacular Swiss fireworks display attracts 150,000 to 200,000 visitors to the lake Zurich basin and invites you to celebrate. In 2021, due to the Covid19 pandemic, instead of fireworks, atmospheric light installations were projected onto various buildings in downtown Zurich, which were met with enthusiasm not only on site but also on social media.
